The addition of salt to our many wounds...Hairston is headed to Oakland for "prospects".
This one truly makes me sick. I am a longtime Friars fan and have defended K.T. on numerous occasions but cannot on this one. Hairston is making 1.25 M this year so it's not a cost cutting move by any stretch of the imagination. With this, Adrian will not see another pitch this season and maybe for years to come. Hariston also seemed to be a signable guy for the future. Now we have to see Kyle "I'm not a big-leaguer" Blanks. Note to the Padres front office: This move only leads to less respect from the fan-base. The crowds should be low for this upcoming series due to your tremendous efforts. ( I am not blaming this all on Towers). Anyway, I've never been more ashamed to be a pads fan. Should I be looking forward to Walter Silva's bid for his first major-league win tommorow, given that hes attempted a dozen times already?

Hello Citi Field
Jody Gerut introduced Mets fans to the new look Padres right from the start. Homering in a game the Padres would win 6-5. How fitting that Heath Bell, a former Met, would get the save at New York's ballpark opener. Also of note is the Padres signing of Chad Gaudin, a former starter for the Oakland A's. In 07' Gaudin went 11-13 with a mid-4 era in the American League. I see this guy fitting into the rotation by early May.
Go Pads.
Go Pads.

Fresh Start
The San Diego Padres are finally in a new era. This is not Tony Gwynn's Padres, or even Trevor Hoffman's Padres. In fact, letting the all-time saves leader leave in free agency may have been the most positive move of the off season. Hoffman is still a solid closer, and had a much better year last season then most San Diego fans credited him for. Heck, he just spoiled us by being perfect for so many years. So I've just praised the guy, yet I say it was great that we let him go. Why? Its because this team was living in his shadows, it was old man Hoffman's ball club. The 2009 squad has a new identity. Young veterans such as Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Adrian Gonzalez and Heath Bell can finally make this team theirs. Which will emerge as the next Mr. Padre? Hopefully neither of them, for awhile at least. As this team has now begun to look towards each other for success, it's created a special element. This Padres team is young, and dare I say it, scrappy. It's a 5-2 start, lets not get ahead of ourselves. But hey, we have reason to be excited.
